VATICAN CITY
Even though we were only scheduled to be in Rome for two days, we still made an effort to visit the Vatican City. We just couldn't miss touring Saint Peter's Basilica, the Vatican Museums, and the Sistine Chapel, and our decision turned out to be a good one.
We were absolutely blown away by our visit here. We were impressed with enormity of the Basilica. Also, the frescoes covering the walls and ceilings of the Museums and the Sistine Chapel were breathtaking!!
Adventures: The Metro, Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Square, Saint Peter’s Basilica, Michelangelo's Pietà, Climbing the Cupola (Dome) of Saint Peter’s Basilica
Memorable Moment: Climbing the 320 steps to the top of the cupola of Saint Peter's Basilica. There is a rope for the final stretch of vertical steps!
[Please note all works of art and surroundings were photographed in compliance with the Vatican's policies. Photography was prohibited in the Sistine Chapel.]
Recommendations:
1) Climb to the top of the cupola of Saint Peter's Basilica
for an incredible view of Rome.
2) Book a tour of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel
in advance of your trip, especially if this in your first time visiting. You could easily spend many days touring the Museums,
and it can be overwhelming. A guide will help get you through the maze while pointing out the most
famous pieces. Plus, your tour reservation allows you to skip the huge queue in
line.
3) Don't miss Michelangelo's Pietá in Saint Peter's
Basilica.
4)
Note the enforced dress code. Visitors cannot enter the Basilica or the Museums with
bare shoulders or knees.
